For the third year in a row, Red Wing Charlottesville made a trip out to the Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC) to ring in the graduation of yet another a class of hard workers! We were happy to hand out $175 Red Wing Charlottesville gift cards, giving 22 of these grads a well-deserved reward for transitioning to the working world
We’re extremely proud of our role in helping out the next generation of technical workers.
Coverage of the Event!
Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education Center’s 2022 School-to-Work Signing Day Event was held on May 17 at 6:15 pm in CATEC’s Career and Counseling Corner, following its Center Board meeting.
School-to-Work Signing Day celebrates CATEC students’ outstanding performances and commitments to employment with local businesses. 22 students were recognized for rolling their apprenticeships, internships, and job interviews into careers with 18 employers. CATEC Director Stephanie Carter says, “Like student athletes signing commitments to attend colleges for sports, CATEC is acknowledging our students who are entering the workforce and the local businesses who seek out our students for employment.”
The event was sponsored by the CATEC Foundation and Red Wing Shoes. The CATEC Foundation, which assists CATEC in advancing career and technical education, training, and job placement, hosted the event and providing students with industry-specific tools and equipment valued at $150 per student. CATEF Foundation Board Chair Linda Seaman says, “The CATEC Foundation is proud to support the CATEC students who are beginning their careers in our local businesses.”
Red Wing Shoes provided each student with a $175 gift card for industry footwear and accessories. Red Wing Shoes Store Manager Bill Gardner says the collaboration with CATEC is, “an amazing opportunity for Red Wing Charlottesville to engage with America’s next generation of trades people. It gives us a great sense of pride to get them started off on the ‘right foot’ and to be a part of such a wonderful community institution such as CATEC.”
Local businesses that participated in the event include: Colonial Auto Center, C & O Restaurant, DNA Electric LLC, Dependable Heating and Air, Inc., Ennsa Construction, Farmington Country Club, Gropen, JS Johnson Electric, Malloy Ford, Martha Jefferson House, Masters Auto Body, Inc., Monroe Health and Rehabilitation, Price Kia, The Laurels of Charlottesville, Volvo of Charlottesville, and Zocalo. Additionally, United States Marine Corps and United States Army representatives will be symbolically signing CATEC’s military-bound students.
