Our sister store at Red Wing Charlottesville was honored to celebrate the graduating class of 2024 from the Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC) at their recent Signing Day. As proud supporters of the next generation of skilled workers, we were thrilled to be part of this exciting event marking their transition into meaningful careers.
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — More than two dozen students at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education Center were honored on Tuesday.
They are looking ahead to their futures and taking a big step at their version of Signing Day.
Like student-athletes, these students were announcing their intentions to go someplace specific after they graduate, but in this case, they are going to take on jobs instead of playing for a college team.
There were 31 students across seven CATEC programs recognized for turning apprenticeships, internships and job interviews into careers with 24 local employers.
For example, students in the nursing program have committed to working at several local facilities this year.
“I have 10 students signing today,” said Jessica Carter Payne, a CNA assistant instructor. “A few with Our Lady of Peace, a couple with the Laurels, a couple with Commonwise Homecare, and one with Sentara Martha Jefferson.”
The School-to-Work Signing Day Celebration was sponsored by the Trades and Technical Education Foundation and Red Wing Shoes.
Each student who signed with a local employer gets $150 worth of equipment they will need for their jobs as well as a $175 gift card for Red Wing Shoes.
Supporting CATEC’s Future Workforce
In recognition of their hard work, dedication, and the skills they’ve honed at CATEC, we awarded each graduate a $175 Red Wing Charlottesville gift card. We understand the importance of reliable, high-quality work boots for many industries these graduates will enter.
As a business deeply rooted in the Charlottesville and Albemarle County community, we’re committed to empowering the hardworking individuals who make our region thrive. We congratulate the CATEC class of 2024 on their achievements and wish them continued success as they embark on their professional journeys.
